London Wasps were delighted to support the Oxford Harlequins RFC Mini Rugby End of Season Awards on Sunday 9th May. Former Oxfordshire player and now London Wasps prop Bob Baker visited the Awards to present the end of season prizes to over 200 young players and joined the players for photographs and signed autographs for the youngsters present at the club.

Open Evening is being held by Director of Rugby John Brodley on Wednesday April 21st, 2010 at the Oxford Rugby Partnership’s North Hinksey site.
 
7:00 - 7:30pm: Presentation to players and parents explaining the Colts Organisation and the transition into senior rugby.
 
7:45 - 8:45pm: Outdoor training for players to give them an indication what to expect.
 
9:00 - 9:45pm: Sit down meal for Players/Informal occasion for parents to talk with the coaches.

With two junior league matches, Wallingford Minis and a touring club visiting Marston Ferry on Sunday, space will be tight.

Due to the recent bad weather and its continuing effect on the Marston Ferry playing areas, all mini and junior rugby has been regrettably been cancelled this weekend. A number of age groups have made arrangements to train indoors at various locations so please check with your age group coaches for further information.

Although a slow thaw has begun, it is very unlikely that the snow will be clear and the pitches sufficiently drained in time for Sunday’s training and matches.

The current black and white graphic across all pages of the website has been there for a while and is actually a cropped slice through a photo taken of the U12s (as they were then) in the 2008/9 season. In order to keep the Minis and Juniors’ website dynamic and interesting (apart from all the entertaining match reports of course) it would be great to have a selection of other photographs of the club’s players to rotate through the space.

Therefore if you have a sharp, high resolution photo of an Oxford Harlequins Minis and Juniors age group that you think may be suitable, please submit it to info@oxfordharlequinsjuniors.co.uk. Please remember that you must have the right to distribute any photographs you send. The club reserves the right to crop, resize, recolour or otherwise alter any images submitted to suit the style of the website as it sees fit. All contributors will be suitably acknowledged.

Oxford Harlequins Minis and Juniors Christmas celebration - basically lots of christmas-type food and mulled wine for adults. For more details look for notices around the club house or to contribute or to otherwise pitch in, please contact Angela Taylor.

A petition is being raised jointly with the Cherwell School and Ferry Sports Centre, to lower speed limit on the Western end of Marston Ferry Road - from the rugby club entrance to the junction with Banbury Road - to 20 MPH. There is concern about the risks of accidents to pedestrians and cyclists using this section of road under the current speed limits for vehicles.

You will find petition forms to sign in the club house at the kitchen and also at the kit shop and the bar. Forms are further available to sign at the Cherwell School.

Please take a moment to register your support (assuming you do support a lower speed limit in an area with a high number of pedestrians and cyclists) before the end of the year. The signed forms will be returned to the school on January 5th, 2010.

Please note that the flood-lit training area at Marston Ferry is CLOSED until further notice. A quick look at the mud and standing water (or ice as of this morning) should make that self-evident.

This of course does NOT affect any of the other training areas or the pitches at Marston Ferry.

Under 8s parents were kind enough to suggest, bake and stock a cake stall in the club house this Sunday to raise funds for the club. The cakes must have been good (alas I was running, shouting and otherwise supporting the U13s in the mud, wind and rain at Wallingford so missed out but then some would say I’ve eaten too many cakes in my time) as nearly £32 resulted from the sale.

A big thank you goes to Kate Harris, the Sharpes - especially Annie - and Archie and Sebastian Croft for making the effort (and the cakes) and providing a bit of a spark to an otherwise miserable Sunday morning. Who’s next?

Tuesdays: Under 17s

Wednesdays: Under 16s and Alchester RFC

Thursdays: Under 12s, under 13s and under 14s.

Under 15s will train at Horspath.

Those with sharp eyes, will notice a board on the wall near the club entrance on which the different pitches and playing areas are shown. Each Sunday, this board will be updated to show which age group will be playing where. Its less of a problem for the younger age groups but the older Mini teams and the Juniors should check each Sunday morning to see where they have been allocated training space based on whether either or both of the pitches are reserved for matches.
